I was watching a new television series called Naked and Afraid on one of my favorite networks Discover Channel. Survival shows are awesome, but this one takes survival to a whole new level.
Here is a rundown on Naked and Afraid:
- A man and a woman are left in a remote area and must survive together for 21 days.
- They each can bring along one essential survival item.
- They are naked.
You can check out the show here.
I know, this is kind of crazy and funny and maybe interesting at the same time. But it also says a lot about the human body. It shows how strong we really are and how much our bodies can endure. The people who take the challenge shed a lot of weight. For example:
Episode 2 Punishment in Panama
- Clint – lost 40 lbs
- Laura – lost 17 lbs
Episode 6 Beware the Bayou
- Billy – lost 42.5 lbs
- Ky – lost 18 lbs
Lets get serious about getting smaller!
I absolutely am not telling you or anyone else to put themselves in a survival situation OR go into starvation mode to lose weight! I’m just calling out a simple principle that we can gleam and use in our day to day lives:
Getting smaller is about eating smaller.
The CDC reports that 35.7% of adults and 17% of children in the U.S. are obese. There are so many products out there that will take your money and promise to make you smaller. But when it comes down to it, most people who are overweight simply eat more than they naturally burn. No matter what gadget you have; what workout you do, whats trending, popular or fun, this principle will always be the same.
How much you eat will determine if you get smaller, stay the same, or get bigger. Its that simple
Hopefully this gets you thinking and saves you some money too! Before you go, what kind of awesome TV shows inspire you?
